Elite (Season 1) (2018) – Storyline:
After their school collapses, three working-class friends – Samuel, Nadia and Christian – are offered scholarships to Las Encinas, the most exclusive private school in Spain. The scholarships are sponsored by the construction company at fault for the school’s collapse. At Las Encinas, the three are initially ostracized by wealthy students. As the school year progresses, their lives intertwine in a clash of lifestyles, resentments, envy, and sexual attraction. Through a series of flash-forward scenes of police interrogations, the audience is shown stories of the characters’ relationships that lead to Marina’s murder.
‘Elite (Season 1) 2018’: TV Review :
Solidly entertaining for what it’s . Think every tenn show you have ever seen and add a touch of the Affair or the way to escape With Murder. It’s melodrama through and thru . Pretty teens. Well worth a binge watch if you’re stuck inside on a time period . you’ll not end up transfixed but you will want to understand what happens next. The writing felt a touch stale but in fact translations and voiceovers don’t always capture the rhythm of the first dialogue. Still something tells me the author isn’t Spain’s answer to Shondre Rhimes or Aaron Sorkin.
Good acting. Beautiful setting. Some cliché tropes that are actually used in an original way, and some twist and turns I definitely did not see coming. The characters are believable, they have depth and weaknesses and aren’t adults doing adult things while telling the viewer they really are sixteen (unlike shows like Gossip Girl). I loved the European groundedness of it, there’s a realism to this show American teen shows never seem to possess. I’ve been surprised plenty of times, I’d definetely recommend, also for the older viewer who likes a good murder mystery.
